Approximately 4,000 of Douglas County School District’s 68,000 students are emerging bi-linguals. Their families sometimes are, too – which means they are still learning English. Occasionally, this language barrier can lead to parents feeling disconnected from their child’s school.

Douglas County School District has partnered with Patsy Roybal – an expert in parent involvement, primarily with Mexican/Latino families – to help bridge the information gap between schools and these families.

After completing a program designed to educate participants about their district, these families are now graduating with the confidence to be active members of their school communities and become ambassadors to other families.
